Our methodology
How we rank tax relief companies
A ranking is only useful if you can see how it was built. Here is what we measure, how much each factor counts, and the standards we hold ourselves to.

Our editorial standards
Editorial independence
Placement on our list cannot be purchased. Every company is scored against the same criteria, and the editorial team makes the final call.
Consistent criteria
Each firm is evaluated on results, customer feedback, credentials and pricing, so scores can be compared fairly across the list.
Credential checks
We look for licensed attorneys, enrolled agents and CPAs on staff, because who handles your case matters as much as the firm's name.
Regular reviews
Rankings are revisited on a set schedule and whenever material information about a company changes.
Why we publish this list
Dealing with the IRS is stressful, and the tax relief industry is crowded with aggressive advertising. Our goal is to give you clear, honest information so you can choose a reputable firm, or decide you do not need one at all.
